Closure and its legacy today

In 2010 the former Hackney Hospital site is a shadow of its former self. Most of the buildings have been demolished. The Nurses' Home, built in 1937, is due for demolition to be replace with mixed used housing. On the site of the original lunacy wards and later maternity unit a secure unit for the mentally ill now stands. Built by the East London NHS Foundation Trust we can only conclude that 'dangerous' individuals are held here. It seems a shame that the NHS trust did not put more thought into how the site was developed.
