Objection. The enlarged glazing on the ground floor is not in keeping with the aspect of the original building. Further instead of artificial grass on the proposed terrace, alternative natural planting should be explored, in line with Hackney's biodiversity policy.

Objection. While the SCAAC has no problem with the principle of an additional floor, the design quality here is of a disappointing standard, falling short of the precedents referenced in the application.

 

2019/3794 Leonard Square House 1 Mark Square EC2A 4EG Retention of letter sign at fascia level and installation of 2 internally illuminated hanging projection signs (Micheal Garvey 020 8356 8053)

Objection. The proposed signs are totally out of keeping with the quiet streetscape of Mark Square. Further we note that the request for retention of the letter sign at fascia level indicates installation without prior consent, a move to which the SCAAC strongly objects.

2019/3611 39A Hoxton Square N1 6NN Installation of 1 fascia internally illuminated advertisement sign. (Raymond Okot 020 8356 8080)

Objection. The existing sign never received advertisement consent. The proposed sign should therefore be compared to the last sign to receive planning permission, ie the Electricity Showroom sign which reflected and enhanced the heritage of the building. The proposed sign in contrast is totally out of keeping with the design of the original building, a well loved local landmark with its distinctive dome which stands in a prominent position at the entry to the Hoxton Square and Hoxton Street character zones. It is therefore invalid to attempt to justify the proposed sign by comparing it to the sign on the nearby 37 Hoxton Square, a 2004 building of much lesser standard. The SCAAC via the submission of this comment would like to nominate 39A as a locally listed building.

 

2019/3866 53-55 Hoxton Square N1 6PB Variation of condition 2 (approved drawings) attached to planning permission 2018/1274 dated 11/06/2018 for erection of a two storey roof extension and associated external alterations to facilitate the creation of two self-contained residential dwellings (2 x 2 bedroom) and erection of a lift within existing lightwell. Effect of variation would be to replace a window with a smoke vent louvre panel and amend the design of the windows at fifth floor level. (Danny Huber 020 8356 1453)
