Current voluntary roles

New Trustee Positions

The Hackney Society is looking to add to the existing Board members. In particular we are seeking individuals with specific skills that will help us to achieve our goals of both protecting the Borough's heritage and promoting new excellence in building design. All positions are voluntary and unpaid.

1. Sponsorship & fundraising

We are looking for somebody who has experience of securing funds from private companies or individuals that will enable us to increase our campaigning work as well as helping to develop the Society for the 21st century.

The trustee will help us in developing partnerships and exploring funding possibilities, working both on new opportunities as well as looking to maximise value from our existing resources.

3. Membership Communication

This role is to develop, support and deepen our relationship with our existing membership and to work with other trustees on ways of growing and expanding our membership base.

The position is aimed at ensuring that existing members are kept informed of all relevant issues and campaigns and to encourage their active involvement. We are also keen to extend our support and attract new members.

5. Lawyers / Planners

This position reflects an increasingly challenging area for the Society at a time when the dramatic amount of developments, large and small, creates pressures on both the local authority and the community. With Hackney under pressure from developers and central government policy, we are seeking a person who can offer advice and guidance that will support and strengthen our campaigns and communications. It is not seen as an active legal role but one that will offer insight and advice into the planning process to ensure we can offer robust positions and challenges to those we are seeking to influence.

Book sales

We need regular volunteers to distribute our publications to bookshops, museums and libraries and to staff market stalls in Hackney.

Planning Group

We are always keen to hear from residents or architectural, urban design and planning professionals with a local interest to join our Planning Group. The group comments on large-scale planning applications outside of conservation areas, and other key developments, policy documents, and local consultations. For more information visit the 'planning' section of our website.

If you would like to volunteer or contribute in some way please contact us.
