TALK on Thursday 19 July 2012, 6.30pm

As the Olympic preparations reach their climax, Catherine Beale, author of Born out of Wenlock, explores Hackney's unique connections with the Shropshire market town that inspired the modern Olympic movement.

The founder of the International Olympic Committee, Pierre de Coubertin, revived the Olympics after attending the Wenlock Olympian Games in 1890. The founder of those Games, Dr William Penny Brookes (1809-95), had a close personal link with our borough. In her illustrated talk, Catherine will explore this and the Wenlock Barn (Sutton House) connection.
